It’s only 11 kilometers, but go 11 kilometers! We talk about the Garraf coast with its beaches, its coves, and its curves. Forget what Google Maps says it will take you to travel in the car. 18 minutes? We already warn you that it will be longer … and that there are not many viewpoints. Beautiful landscapes that link the green of the forest – the Garraf Natural Park – with the blue of the sea as if it were an impressionist painting.

Of course, since they are still 11 kilometers away, we also include a few more places to see in the Garraf, from cities to a Buddhist monastery. Yes, as you read it, a Buddhist monastery. Without forgetting, as always, some culinary and accommodation recommendations. For the most daring, an aquatic surprise at the end … Do you dare?

VILANOVA I LA GELTRÚ: THE CAPITAL OF GARRAF TO DISCOVER…

And to think that it was an atmospheric coincidence that Vilanova I la Geltrú discovered. On our first trip to the region, our original plan was to travel along the Garraf coast with the car, until the sky broke and it rained as if there was no tomorrow. At less than 60 km / h on the highway, we look for an exit to stop the car safely. The departure was to Vilanova I la Geltrú. Nothing less than the capital of Garraf.

What might seem an inconvenience soon turned into a lucky carambola. In Vilanova i la Geltrú we find a small fishing village – the Geltrú area -, with one of the best railway museums in the country, with a library full of works of art, with a castle, with a lighthouse, with beaches, with the red shrimp … Yes, we assure you that it is worthwhile to make a stop before starting your route along the Garraf coast.

Later, when the weather turned on our side, we even made a short boat trip to the coast of neighboring Sitges.

We tell you everything in our article Turisteando by chance in Vilanova I la Geltrú.

SITGES: THE PEARL OF THE REGION

Did you know that the founders of two big rum brands were born in Sitges? Yes, Don Facundo Bacardi and Don Andrés Brugal took their first steps in the city streets. It is clear that the party is part of the DNA of one of the most famous coastal towns in the province of Barcelona.

But not only live Sitges party, but also art and culture. From the well-known fantastic film festival of Catalonia, the Sitges Film Festival, to the painted patios – famous thanks to the paintings of Santiago Rusiñol -, through the architecture of the church of San Bartolomé and Santa Tecla and the modernist.

If you thought there were only beaches – eye, there is nothing less than 26 beaches in Sitges! -, check out our Sitges article, more than a film festival to know everything you didn’t know and that will make you stop the car.

AIGUADOLÇ: MARINA AND MEDITERRANEAN VILLAGE IN MINIATURE

Without leaving Sitges, although leaving the city, we find a corner full of charm. We talked about its marina: Aiguadolç. A barrier closes the passage to the cars to which, without paying much attention and from outside, it seems urbanization of white houses next to the moorings of the boats…
